Thüringer Gründerfonds starts playfully: Software company from Jena aims to simplify the development of computer games

Erfurt/Jena (Sep­tem­ber 13, 2011). Sim­l­ity GmbH – a com­pany that emerged from the Friedrich-Schiller-Uni­ver­sity in Jena – is the first start-up-com­pany receiv­ing equity financ­ing from the Thüringer Grün­der­fonds (ThGF). The recently founded firm pro­vides a novel tool kit for the cre­ation of browser-based games.

„There are only a few com­pa­nies offer­ing tool kits for browser games”, stated Sebas­t­ian Apel, man­ag­ing direc­tor of GmbH. Games can be devel­oped sub­stan­tially faster and oper­ated more effi­ciently with our inno­v­a­tive IT-tool. There is no need for cost-inten­sive devel­op­ment of sin­gle games with the server-cen­tric solu­tion pro­vided by Sim­l­ity. With this approach Sim­l­ity serves a niche in a boom­ing market.

Dr. Guido Bohnenkamp, man­ag­ing direc­tor of bm|t, is con­vinced that this invest­ment will pay-off: „The mar­ket for browser games shows strong growth with Ger­many being a leader in this seg­ment. We are opti­mistic, that the cur­rent posi­tion can be fur­ther expanded with our investment”.

About Thüringer Gründerfonds (ThGF)

The fund was estab­lished in 2011 to pro­vide equity cap­i­tal for early-stage tech­nol­ogy com­pa­nies in Thuringia. Such com­pa­nies can be sup­ported with eco­nomic equity of up to € 500.000 p.a. For the time being the fund has a vol­ume of € 2 Mio. Cur­rently 11 com­pa­nies have launched a request for cap­i­tal with the ThGF.
